Biography

Professor Buist earned his medical degrees in Scotland with later training in Biochemical Genetics in Denver, Colorado. For 35 years, he ran the largest Metabolic Clinic in the US and a lab involved in multiple clinical and research projects that characterized at least ten new genetic disorders. He was intimately involved in the start of Newborn Screening in a program well known for innovation, being the first to introduce many of the tests currently used. He developed radically new nutritional products to treat inborn errors of metabolism and helped develop the specific device used in this presentation. He has worked in acute international crises in Asia and Africa, is well known internationally, and has published >150 articles in research journals.
