Epilepsy and Seizure Disorders

Epilepsy affects around 50 million people worldwide, and its impact goes well beyond the seizures. Around 80% of people with epilepsy live in low- and middle-income countries, where access to diagnosis and treatment is often limited. Many patients live with constant worry about when the next seizure will come, and face limits on driving and work.

This track covers the full path of epilepsy care. Sessions begin with accurate diagnosis using EEG, imaging, and long-term video monitoring, then move on to novel antiseizure medicines and the management of drug-resistant epilepsy. We will discuss epilepsy surgery, laser ablation, neurostimulation devices, and dietary therapies. Genetic epilepsies, status epilepticus, and the specific needs of children, older people, and women during pregnancy will also be explored.

Neurologists, neurosurgeons, EEG specialists, nurses, and researchers are invited to share work that is helping people move toward seizure freedom and a better quality of life.

Topics include:

  • Diagnosis, EEG, and video monitoring
  • New antiseizure medications
  • Drug-resistant epilepsy
  • Epilepsy surgery and laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT)
  • Neurostimulation and ketogenic diet therapy
  • Genetic and developmental epilepsies
  • Status epilepticus
  • Epilepsy in women, children, and older adults

Come and share the advances that are giving people with epilepsy more control over their lives.
